Master your French skills with my ultimate guide to the best French podcasts

Podcasts are old-fashioned and for dinosaurs! If this is what you think, then I’ll change your mind in no time with my list of the best French podcasts. In this article, I’ll convince you how listening to French podcasts make a positive impact on your learning. I share valuable resources with you to help improve your French while listening to podcasts. Podcasts were launched in 2004 by Adam Curry and Dave Winer; today, there are podcasts in almost every language. As a consequence, French is no exception. For the last decade, thanks to all Gods of the universe, podcasts are a deep method of communication. I knew about podcasts for many years, but I never took the time to look at them closely. I rediscovered podcasts in 2018,  when I was invited on Revolution Digitale’s podcast to talk about my career as a French teacher and school founder. Since then,…

18 smart Christmas gifts🎄 for someone who is learning French (or for yourself 🤩)

Ideal Christmas gifts for someone who is learning French I hate Christmas and Christmas shopping but… I’m not anti-social and I still have a family and friends, so as long as I’m still interacting with people I love, I won’t be able to avoid the Christmas season.  I hate Christmas for many reasons and one of them is that it’s very hard for me to find useful and great gifts. I always want to be original and I don’t want to fall into the trap of giving the trendiest item. I always take it very personally when, for example, I offer a book and the person doesn’t read it. I know I shouldn’t, but I’m like this.  I know finding useful gifts is challenging and we never have enough time to prepare our Christmas shopping. In this article, I will help you find useful, fun and interesting gifts related to…

So you’ve reached level B2 French and think you can’t progress further or attend any new courses? This is absolutely false! There are many ways to improve and maintain your French skills even if you have reached the upper intermediate or advanced level. When I finish a course with a student, in addition to having my heart broken by saying goodbye, I give tons of resources to help them continue improving their skills, even without attending private French classes. The real challenge once we’ve reached either level B2 French or level C1 French is to continue learning and practising without a formal frame. Many students are left without any solid tips towards practising and maintaining their level. Some reasons why it can be difficult to continue practising French after reaching level B2 French: Working in an international environment where French is not mandatory Not being located in a francophone country…

The truth about learning French with an app

What are the benefits of learning French, or any foreign language, with an app? Nowadays, with the booming tech industry, thousands of new apps are launched every day and there is an app for absolutely everything. It was obvious that apps would include learning languages soon or later. Working as a private French teacher, many of my students were or are using French language apps to improve their skills in French. I love learning languages myself and I have tried a few of them. A recent article in the German newspaper Frankfurt Allegemeine mentioned a study on the benefits of learning French or any foreign language with an app. According to the study, success can only be reached under certain conditions such as: regularity, motivation, knowing all the functionalities of the app and by having a long term vision. In my opinion, if you are starting from scratch and looking…

Do you speak French with an accent? Your accent is your friend!

Let’s talk about why your accent is actually your partner in crime when you speak French. Did you know that, in Paris and all throughout France, even native French speakers from other French regions or countries are asked ALL THE TIME "Where do you come from?” Stop self-bashing yourself because you speak French with an accent After around 20 hours of private Portuguese classes (coucou Virginia), I arrived in Rio and I was pretty confident. Once in the taxi, the driver directly asked me "De onde é você?" (Where are you from). Damn, my accent is back again. How many times has it happened to you: You are somewhere in France, you speak in French, only to be asked "where do you come from?" - in English? First, if you talk in French, why the h*** would the person reply to you in English? Secondly, what's the point of talking about…

Learn French with Instagram

Learn French with Instagram How many times per day are you connected on Instagram? Instagram is by far the app in vogue for the moment. I am myself a big fan. As a language learner, is it also possible to take most of the advantages of it and continuously learning while having fun on the app. I will tell you a story about Instagram and learning a language and how it can influence or maybe change something in your life. Yes, in your life, I am serious. Last summer, I was planning a break for January 2019 in Brazil. I speak already Spanish, French and English fluently and I studied, many years ago, Hebrew, Arabic and Dutch. I wanted to challenge my brain again and learn Portuguese. I checked some group classes in Paris but I wasn’t convinced because of the lack of flexibility in terms of schedule. In the…
